Q Read the scenario of the Dell Family and answer the associated questions. (20 points) The Dell Family The Dell family lives in on a farm in Sedgwick, County outside of Wichita, Kansas. Father, Bill Dell, is 45 years old and works the family farm. Wife Suzie is 44 years old and keeps the books for the farm operation. She also works part-time at the local Wal-Mart. Son Billy Jr., is a 14 year old high school sophomore who is on the academic team. Daughter Lily, is a 10 year-old 5th grader at the local elementary school and is on the dance team. The Dells are experiencing some family problems related to several issues. The family farm has been losing money in recent years and the Dells have been struggling financially. Suzie decided to take the part-time job at Wal-Mart to help pay the bills. The work sometimes leaves her feeling fatigued and disconnected. The family spends a significant amount of money every month for health insurance, cell phones, internet access and gasoline for vehicles. Neither she nor Bill have been spending much quality family time due to work and financial pressures. They argue a lot in front of the kids, which they realize is not a good practice. Suzie’s mom, Edna, worries about the health of her daughter’s marriage. She also worries about her grandchildren spending so much time unsupervised. Sometimes Edna picks the kids up after school or after practice to help out. Bill is dissatisfied with the amount of time he has been getting with Suzie and the lack of attention. He has started to reconnect with old high school friends on Facebook, including his recently divorced high school sweetheart. Billy Jr. spends all of his free time on his new tablet studying for academic competitions and doing his homework. He has recently started to take great interest in girls, especially Mary Ellen, the 14 year old neighbor girl who is the reigning Strawberry Festival Queen. Lily spends her time on homework and dance routines. She has been asking to hang out with girls on the Middle School dance team so she can improve her skills. She also thinks she is mature for her age and likes to be with older girls. Use your critical thinking skills to analyze the Dell family. What situations make the Dells at risk of family breakdown?
